We have heard about Acai Berry here and there but never knew how to prepare it ourselves or find a place to buy it. We read up on how healthy and nutritious it was, so we have been on the search for Acai. If you think pronouncing this fruit correctly is hard, try finding it! After we finally stumbled across this frozen superfood at Whole Foods, we were thrilled to say the least. The reason for my sudden interest in this fruit was because of a trip I took this summer to San Diego. It seemed like every restaurant featured this amazing superfood and prepared it just perfectly. This is where I was finally introduced to my latest food craze: The Acai Bowl. After my first bite, I was instantly hooked. I was on a mission to figure out how these perfectly crafted bowls were made. Because I try to avoid dairy, I don’t eat yogurt with granola and fruit like I used to. No one liked yogurt as much as we did! Our biggest defeat was letting go of those Yogurtland discount tokens. I am so happy to finally find such a delicious, and way more nutritious alternative. The best part is it is so easy to make. Check out the recipe below to see just how simple it is:
- Frozen Acai(4 pouches come in a pack and we used two)
- 1 frozen banana,
- 1 handful of frozen mixed berries
- A splash of almond milk.
- 1/2 cup of granola(we used the Muesli brand)
- Fresh blackberries and raspberries
- 1 banana, sliced
*This makes 2 servings
Blend together frozen acai, frozen banana, frozen mixed berries, and almond milk. It may take a few times to blend the ingredients, then stir, then blend again because you are working with mostly frozen ingredients. Do not add too much liquid. Be patient while it blends. Remember, you want this to have a frozen yogurt consistency. Once it becomes a thick texture and you can see it is fully blended, pour into two bowls. Pour about ¼ cup of granola on top of each bowl, half of a sliced banana on each, and split up the fresh berries to top off this treat. That’ll do it!
